Gormah comes from Liberia in Africa, where there was a war. Gormah has seen and experienced many violent things. When she meets a Dutch man, she decides to move with him to the Netherlands. But even in the Netherlands, life can be difficult. Gormah does not know the culture and does not speak the language. Because she cannot read and write, she even gets into debt. She has to work hard to pay off her debt. At first, she has so little money that her children have to go to school with empty lunch boxes. But she decides to change course: Gormah starts learning to read and write Dutch. That way she will get rid of her debt and something like this can never happen again.
Today, Gormah is an example to others. She can read and write and is a Language Ambassador for the Reading and Writing Foundation. With her story, Gormah inspires many others to learn Dutch as well. Gormah now tells people all over the country how important it is to go to school.
