Obah and his sister Banita grow up 300 years ago, in a village in the African country of Benin. They have a happy childhood, but then they are kidnapped and sold to slave traders. They each get a different owner. From then on, Obah has only one goal: to find his sister Banita. But how? As long as he is the property of a master, he has no freedom and cannot go looking. But love for his sister is his driving force. So during his time enslaved, he does something special: he learns to read and write and eventually buys back his freedom. Will he manage to find Banita after all?
