SpreekBeter
Practicing intelligibility in Dutch
Speak fluently with SpreekBeter!
Did you know that poor intelligibility is a greater source of miscommunication than grammatical errors? With SpreekBeter, NT2 students work specifically on their intelligibility in Dutch. This goes beyond just correct pronunciation of sounds: the melodic aspects of Dutch, such as stress, sentence stress, rhythm, and intonation, are just as important. With SpreekBeter, students work on all aspects of intelligibility. The learning environment works smoothly on both laptops and phones, so students can practice anytime, anywhere.
Speak better in 25 lessons
SpreekBeter contains 25 series of exercises for all individual pronunciation problems. The 25 series are divided into four categories:
1. Melodic aspects: word and sentence stress, questions, and colloquial language
2. Consonants
3. Consonant combinations: final t and s at the beginning
4. Vowels
All series of exercises consist of four steps:
1. Learning to hear the sound, stress, sentence stress, rhythm, or intonation.
2. Practicing recognizing the sound, stress, sentence stress, rhythm, or intonation.
3. Listening, imitating, and comparing with the example.
4. Using in continuous speech.
