Meet Shadi, founder of Taaly
Shadi's life changed drastically when a civil war broke out in Yemen in 2015. He ended up in Ter Apel and applied for asylum. Through his own experiences, Shadi discovered how difficult it was for newcomers to learn Dutch and to come into contact with Dutch people. “I started a WhatsApp group, but it was not effective. There were many coordination problems: newcomers found it difficult to make appointments themselves, and Dutch people often canceled without informing the newcomers. In addition, proactive communication does not always suit the shy and reserved culture of the newcomers. Then I came up with a digital solution: Taaly.”
