Aboe Nasr al‑Farabi

Aboe Nasr al‑Farabi (870‑950) is naast Avicenna en Averroës een van de grote filosofen uit de islamitische traditie. Hij maakte de Griekse filosofie toegankelijk voor Arabische lezers, en wordt daarom ook wel ‘de tweede leraar’ genoemd, naast de eerste leraar, Aristoteles. De deugdzame stad heeft veel invloed gehad op latere islamitische denkers, maar ook op Joodse filosofen als Maimonides – en daarmee indirect op Spinoza.
