Taaltalent
Taaltalent is a Dutch language course that takes the student to ERK level B1 in three parts. Besides the components reading, listening, speaking and writing, much attention is paid to grammar, vocabulary, culture, study skills and language at work. The didactics consist of three steps: preparation, execution and practice.
The method
In three parts to B1
Taaltalent is a Dutch language course for non-native speakers in three parts. After part 1 the student is able to have a simple conversation, fill in forms, write short texts, understand simple reading and listening texts and have conversations in a work situation. Part 2 progresses from level A1 to level A2 and, like part 1, focuses on language at work. With part 3 the student reaches level B1 and qualifies for the Staatsexamen NT2 program I.
Structure
The structure of the chapters is the same in all volumes of Taaltalent. Each chapter consists of four parts: an opening text, ‘preparing’, ‘performing’ and ‘practicing’. In the ‘perform’ section, the final assignment focuses on a work situation. Each chapter concludes with a glossary of Dutch - English.
Interactive
With Taaltalent - part 1, 2 and 3 is a comprehensive website where, in addition to exercises with vocabulary, grammar, spelling and pronunciation, there are also word lists (integral and per chapter) and assignments on work. After each chapter the student can take a digital test. Furthermore, both the teacher and the students have access to the answers of the assignments in the book and to the listening excerpts.
The teacher material consists of the teacher's manual, the tests and the transcripts of the listening fragments.
Language & culture at work
To prepare the language learner for the workplace, the “at work” section has been added to Taaltalent. The introductory assignment in the book prepares the learner for the assignments on the website and focuses on cultural differences in the workplace. This assignment can be done in class. Online are animated videos and speaking and writing assignments for language situations at work.
