Start.nl is an interactive, blended-learning method for theoretically educated non-native speakers (international students and expats), who want to get started with Dutch in a communicative way. Pronunciation, communication and Dutch culture are at the center.
With the communicative method Start.nl, international students, expats and foreign academics can introduce themselves, order a drink or do some shopping after just a few lessons. These students often do not need to take a Dutch exam, but they do want to learn some applicable language skills in a short period of time. With the two parts of the blended learning method Start.nl, they can reach level A2 in a short time.
Start.nl is based on three pillars: prepare, perform and practice. Each chapter begins with digital preparation. Students get started with animated videos, audio clips and related listening and speaking tasks, and practice grammar and vocabulary. They can then continue in class with the assignments in the workbook. After each lesson, exercises are available on the website to sharpen the grammar and words learned. Digital homework includes grammar and vocabulary exercises, a writing assignment and prosody exercises. Each chapter concludes with a test.
The teacher materials for Start.nl include a teacher's guide, the written-out role plays as copy sheets, and ten tests for the chapters and two assessments (for chapters 1-5 and for chapters 6-10).
