Mi Sranan
New stories from Suriname
Mi Sranan is a collection of five short stories at language level A2/B1. The stories are written by Surinamese authors, with the sound and smell of Suriname. About life in Suriname. Naar Suriname tells about the remigration of a Dutch-Surinamese family, and the awkwardness this causes for the children. De Spreekbeurt is about a stuttering boy who is bullied and finds his way in it. In Eye to Death, we read about the bite of a poisonous snake and a miraculous rescue. Trees Can Talk touches on the mystical appeal of trees, and the story Neighbours' Arguing is a modern take on the Romeo and Juliet theme.
A glossary at the back translates Sranan Tongo, with which the stories are interspersed. Many words we already know in the Netherlands. No Spang! The stories are easy to read.
