Providing good NT2 instruction to alpha students can be challenging. For example, students often have different backgrounds and learning profiles. The Goedgeletterd course offers the possibility of customization. Students who work with Goedgeletterd learn to shape their own learning trajectory and make choices in how they want to achieve learning goals.
Within the approach in Goedgeletterd, the language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are addressed. In addition, attention is paid to expanding vocabulary, learning to use the computer, working independently and personal responsibility. Goedgeletterd is therefore much more than a method of technical reading and writing. The main goal is for students to reach language level Alpha C = A1 for all language skills.
Goedgeletterd consists of two textbooks, two reading and writing notebooks, online materials and a reading book. Additional materials are available for teachers.
The textbooks are structured around sixteen themes. They focus on the language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and vocabulary expansion. The themes are built around a number of capstone words. In Part 1, the coat hanger words are largely made up of phonetic letters (level Alpha 0 to Alpha A). In Part 2, the coat hanger words have diphthongs, letter clusters and/or non-syllabic letters.
The two reading and writing exercise books are full of exercises and assignments aimed at technical reading and writing and are suitable for students from level Alpha 0. Using the coat hanger words from the different themes in the textbooks, almost all sounds, letters and letter combinations are covered. The reading and writing exercise books focus primarily on learning to read and write.
For students, the Goedgeletterd website includes interactive assignments, audio clips and workbooks for numbers and clocking.
For teachers, additional materials are available in the form of a general teacher's guide, a teacher's guide for each lesson, practice cards, coat hanger word cards, writing worksheets and board games.
The Reading book An and Daan allows Alpha-NT2 students to practice their reading skills. The reading book contains 16 chapters with texts composed of the letters of the coat hanger words of the 16 themes from the Goedgeletterd textbooks. In each successive chapter, more and more letters and sounds are used and the texts become longer and more complex. The level runs from: on the way to Alpha A, through Alpha B to Alpha C. The book can be used to increase the time spent reading and practice tempo reading.
