What's in our DNA?

Many polls show that the Netherlands is among the happiest countries in the world. How did we manage to achieve such a leading position over the centuries? Is there something in the character of Dutchmen, Groningers and Brabanders that allows a small country to be great? 

Who should read this?

Anyone who thinks they know why they are Dutch. Anybody who is sometimes annoyed by Dutch people. Anybody who would like to live in the Netherlands. Anybody who feels like disagreeing with this sketch of our DNA, because that too "makes up your own mind".
